One of the top risks to an automotive business is fire so it is essential that your business is both prepared for and protected against such hazards. Fires in an auto shop can start from very small sources but can rapidly become raging infernos – causing extensive damage to your property as well as your finances. Implementing effective fire prevention rules will help reduce risks but will that help rebuild your business?
Can you afford to manage the cost of your repairs
A faulty power strip can cause an electrical short. If unlucky, it will catch fire and take your whole business down while you’re asleep and result in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage. It is important to consider whether you can afford to manage the cost of repairs for the extensive damage to your property and equipment, and potentially that of your neighbor.
Auto shop was only partially insured
Recently CBS news reported on an auto shop fire in Escondido, which went up in smoke in one minute flat after a VW Bug burst into flames. The owner’s son and daughter-in-law were in residence at the auto shop with their four-month-old child, and were lucky to escape with their lives. While the owner attempted to battle the blaze with a fire extinguisher, the contents of the auto shop fueled the fire leaving his efforts to minimum success. After the fire department arrived on scene, it took them nearly 30 minutes to smother the flames due to the presence of oil canisters on the property. Unfortunately for this auto shop family, their business was only partially insured and so it remains to be seen if they can afford to rebuild their livelihood.
Always consider comprehensive auto repair business insurance
It is a sad fact that most auto repair businesses close up shop for good after experiencing a fire. In order to protect your auto repair business from destruction, review your fire safety rules and consider comprehensive auto repair business insurance.
